Adding tracks to PL
First, you should have SqueezeServer (formerly SlimServer) up and running.
Second, you should have a Squeeze player running.
Either you have Logitech's Squeezebox, or a software emulation
like SoftSqueeze running on your PC.
Make sure your server/player combination functions properly,
before setting up this software. And have the server's IP adress at hand.
When you launch SlimControl for the first time,
the screen will look like the screenshot to the left.
Open the popup menu
and select
settings
.
Skip the registration dialog and proceed to the settings dialog.
Enter the Squeeze server's IP address and hit the 'Test' button. The test should succeed
and echo the server version. Confirm and close the settings by hitting OK.
SlimControl will now connect to the Squeeze server. Note the connection status in the top status bar.
Hit the player status icon to open the list of available players.
Select a player by clicking one of the listed players.
Note:
Clicking the player status icon again closes the player list
The player is specifically designed to be controlled with your fingers, rather than with a stylus.
Most buttons require a simple finger-tap to trigger.
Some controls have a scrolling feature, which is activated by holding down and moving
your finger across the screen.
From my experience, it takes some time to get used to the touch screen sensitivity to
reliably use the scrolling feature.
Do not be frustrated, if this feature bugs you in the beginning.
Moreover, one of these scrolling controls, the list view, may be clicked
to select a particular item. Be aware, that it only accepts rapid clicks.
Tapping and holding your finger down for more than ½ second will not trigger a click.
Using the player is be pretty straightforward.
The screenshot on the left shows all buttons and controls except for the volume control.
Besides the obvious buttons, the sliders
may be clicked or scrolled to set
either track-position or volume of the player.
Slider changes take effect after you let go of the slider, i.e. lift your finger off the screen.
Clicking the player status icon in the upper-left corner opens a list of available
players in the Squeeze network. Re-clicking it, closes the list.
Album covers may be scrolled horizontally in the aforementioned fashion.
If the coverflow contains more than a single album cover, that is.
Note:
With the initial settings, the coverflow will show only one album at a time.
Open the popup menu
and select playlist
to open the playlist of the current player.
To close the playlist, click on menu button
.
The playlist is one of those scrollable lists.
When you sweep your finger/stylus vertically, the list content will follow your finger's motion.
You can give the list a push by sweeping vertically and lifting your finger while still in motion.
The list will then keep on scrolling for a little. Tapping the screen will stop the scrolling.
To jump to a particular track, briefly (< 0.5 seconds) tap on the corresponding item in the list.
You can move or delete items in the playlist:
If you tap&hold a track, a little cursor will appear on the left or right border of the playlist (see picture).
Hold down your finger and move it up/downwards - the icon will change - to move the item up/down by one.
Move your finger even further - the icon will change - to move the item to the very top/bottom of the list.
To remove items from the playlist, sweep your finger to the right. Note the cursor change.
Open the popup menu
and tap the browser
.
At the bottom of the screen you will find buttons to browse the music collection
by genre, artist, or album.
Clicking any one of them will open a scrollable list of items found in the Squeeze database.
You can select an item by briefly tapping it. This will take you to the list of sub-items
matching your selection.
Select a genre to show all artists of that genre.
Select an artist to show all albums of that artist.
Select an album to show all tracks on that album.
Note the hierarchie here: genre->artist->album->track
By selecting an item entry you are applying a filter and will get the
filtered list of items next in the hierachy.
At any time you may go back in the hierarchy by tapping one of the three browser buttons below.
Filters you have applied previously will remain active up to the current hierarchy level.
For example:
You have selected Genre 1, then Artist 2 and are now looking at the list of albums of Artist 2
If you now tap the artists browser button, the list will contain all artists of Genre 1
Tapping artists again will clear the genre filter and show all artists.
You might have noticed the keyboard icon
below the browser window.
Tap it to open a keyboard similar to a mobile phone keypad, which allows you to enter a search string.
Each key represents multiple characters as indicated. For example, quickly tap the 'abc' key 3 times to type 'c'.
The so typed text appears in the caption of the browser window.
The browser window will scroll to the first label matching the search phrase.

Once you have selected a genre, artist, or album you can add this selection to
the playlist.
The current selection is the full content of the browser window.
In the screenshot left, the current selection contains 15 artists in the Blues genre, i.e. all their songs.
Tap on
to append to..., or on
to replace the playlist with the current selection.
These buttons pop up once you have made a selection.
version 0.92
