Which files are cached locally by SlimCtrl

SlimCtrl copies images and information about your music collection to your mobile device. This is called caching.

In particular, SlimCtrl caches album covers, icons, and the entire list of

The lists are cached when you tap the albums/artists/genres button for the first time. Icons and album covers are cached whenever they are needed.

SlimCtrl will become a bit slow while images are loaded for the first time.

I get an error messages during the installation

The application is not intended for this mobile device
That might be true. However SlimCtrl may work on your device anyway.
Continue the installation if possible. If that's not possible, please send me an email for an improved installer (I am currently fixing installer-issues)

The program you have installed may not display properly because it was designed for previous version of Windows Mobile

SlimCtrl will most likely display fine. It supports screen rotation and many screen sizes. If your device supports screen rotation you may experience the landscape bug.

This is also an installer-issue that I am about to fix.
If you'd like to help, send me an email and we'll fix the installation script.

I ran the installer, but SlimControl was not installed on the mobile device

Security settings on your PC (especially under VISTA) may prevent the installer from automatically copying SlimControl to your mobile device.

To install SlimControl open the START menu on your PC:

START → <Programs> → SlimControl → <version> → Install...

The registration link in SlimCtrl doesn't work

SlimControl uses the default browser on your mobile device. The browser which is launched, when you click on a html-file. Sometimes, uninstalling a third-party browser will leave your system without a default-browser.

If SlimCtrl fails to launch the default browser it will try and launch Internet Explorer.

If you need help send me an email. The email should contain the exact error message you you get when tapping the registration hyperlink.

I can see no cover art in the "now playing" screen

Solution 1

Make sure you SlimControl is using the correct HTTP port:
Open the settings and hit the server [settings] button. Verify that the HTTP-port is identical to the one used by your SqueezeCenter.
If SlimControl shows no HTTP port option, follow solution 2.

Solution 2

Open the settings and hit the [cache...] button. Delete the cache of the current server or wipe the whole cache and restart SlimControl.

Solution 3

You may be missing a particular library on your mobile device.
Some versions of windows mobile, particulary 'cooked roms' do not include the library "aygshell.dll".

Check the SlimControl log file located in:

/<programs>/SlimControl_xxx/SCLog.txt

If you find the error message "SHLoadImageFile failed", a missing "aygshell.dll" is most likely the cause.

The user interface looks pixelized

SlimControl was developed for 240x320 screens.
Newer devices with 480x640 or 480x800 screen resolutions extrapolate the native resolution of SlimControl to fill the entire screen. Hence, the graphic will look more edgy.

A scrollbar appears when rotating to landscape orientation

Windows Mobile 5 and newer considers SlimCtrl to be ignorant of screen-rotations. So it adds a vertical scrollbar to make sure you can see everyting.

But SlimCtrl is pretty good at rotating the screen. So there's actually no need for the scrollbar.

The problem can be solved by changing the installation script. Something I haven't found the time to do yet.

If you'd like to assist me resolving this issue and get rid of the scrollbar send me an email and we'll fix the installation script.
